What are the age requirements?
Adult/parent account
To set up parental controls you must be an adult as defined by the laws of your country.
Minor/child account
Any user under the minimum age requirement for their country can play Nexon games, but only with the consent of a parent or guardian and using a child account. After a user reaches the appropriate age, either:
- A parent or guardian can release the child account, which then becomes a regular, unrestricted account, or
- The user can create a regular Nexon account themselves.
Why am I being asked to get/give parental consent?
If the date of birth on your Nexon account shows that you are a under the minimum age requirement for your country, Nexon is required to request parental consent for you to access Nexon games.
If you are an adult and you have received a message asking for parental consent, it is because a minor has requested your permission to create a Nexon account.
Why do I need to enter a credit card to provide parental consent?
In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and to protect the privacy rights of children worldwide, Nexon requires verifiable parental consent (VPC) prior to any collection, use, and/or disclosure of personal information from children.
To obtain VPC, and confirm your identity, we run either a $0 or $1 authorization charge on your credit/debit card. This is a one-time charge that is automatically voided after the card is confirmed as valid.
After providing your consent, you can set up additional child accounts without being prompted to enter a credit card.
Important: Prepaid cards are not accepted for VPC, regardless if they are bank-issued and carry the logo of a credit card company, such as Visa® or Mastercard®. |
What if I don't have a credit card or I don't want to enter my credit card info?
Currently, we only use one verifiable consent method, which is credit/debit card verification.
What controls does a parent account have?
If you are an adult over the age of 18, you can set up parental controls for your account and do the following:
- Add up to seven child accounts (new or existing) to your parent account.
- Turn a child account on (active) or off (inactive).
- When changed to inactive, the child account cannot log in until the account is changed back to active.
- Allow child accounts to play a game any time after an initial verification, or require a parental PIN to start each game play session.
- Release child accounts when the user reaches or exceeds the minimum age requirement for their country.
- Releasing an account lifts all parental control restrictions and removes the child account from your parent account.
What if I want to add more than seven family members under my account?
Currently, seven child accounts is the maximum allowed per one parent account. You can either:
- Release and remove an existing child account from your family members group, and then add a different child account, or
- Create another Nexon account for yourself using a different email, and then set up parental controls for additional family members.
Note: If you release a child account and the user is still under the minimum age requirement for their country, then their account will not work until it is connected to a parent account, or the minor user reaches the appropriate age, whichever comes first.
Why am I getting an error when I try to add an existing child account to mine?
If you cannot add an existing child account as a family member to your Nexon account, then the child account is likely already connected to a different Nexon account, or the child account does not already exist and needs to be created.
